Ewe & Dye Weaving
Christine Stanley had been weaving and operating a gallery with her potter husband Malcolm Stanley, in Breadalbane, PEI since 1976. In 2012 Christine opened a new weaving shop called Ewe & Dye Weavery in the lovely village of Victoria by the Sea, P.E.I. It is located in the historic 1880 house, #5 Main St. beside the yummy Chocolate Factory. Click at the top of this page to join the facebook page to see pictures of weaving, her heritage sheep, dyeing, spinning and rug hooking....
The shop sells Christine's weaving, handspun yarns and hooked rug drawings on linen, knitting, handspun yarns ....beautiful blankets, rugs, tea towels, scarves, shawls, runners, capes, hats etc...the shop has yarns and raw fleece, dyed and natural, from Christine's rare Blue-faced Leicester sheep as well as locally spun yarns in alpaca, angora and various sheep for knitters and rug hookers. If you love fibre ...this is the shop for you.... All local and natural....and the spinning wheel is always ready to spin....In 2017 the shop will be selling pottery by Malcolm Stanley
Malachi is the donkey with Christine and he looks after the sheep while they're in pasture....This picture was taken by John Sylvester for Saltscape magazine.
Ewe & Dye Weavery is open daily this summer 2016 and longer hours as I have some help this year.... I suggest you plan to take your time because the Village is worth exploring....something for everyone.... the chocolate factory with it's factory coffee...a glass lined with chocolate and hot coffee, handmade chocolates on the premises, an antique shop with the largest tree on PEI in the driveway, a beautiful old hotel The Orient, Victoria Cottages and numerous restaurants with local fresh fish.
At the foot of Main St. the Village has a beach, kayaking rentals, a lighthouse, picnic tables, a working fishing fleet and an outlet for fresh seafood.
The Village also has some beautiful heritage houses from the 1800s, home based businesses...my shop, a jewellery shop with all the pieces made by the owner, a print shop with etchings and prints made while you watch....Bring your weekly visitors and sit with a drink on the porch of at least 3 spots .. Finish the day with a play at our little theatre The Playhouse or Sundays at the 2 pm matinee.Spend a few hours or be like most and spend the day!
Malcolm Stanley Pottery
Malcolm is coming out of retirement and will be setting up a new pottery studio at our farm in Breadalbane. He will be ready to fill the shop in 2017.
He will be selling at the new shop EWE and DYE Weavery, #5 Main Street, Victoria by the Sea. It will the only shop to carry our weaving and pottery.
Stanley Pottery and Weaving was established in 1976 by us, Malcolm and Christine. We have moved our shop and studio a few times. Malcolm retired from pottery in 2012 and our son took over. I sold our son Michael's pottery at my new shop until this summer, when he opened his own shop.
Michael has moved his family to Victoria by the Sea, this year 2016 and has set up a pottery shop and is living in the former Victoria Village Inn. Sorry It is no longer an Inn. It is a year round residence, pottery shop and studio for him and his artist wife Michelle. Check out his web site michaelstanleypottery.com
